On 15th December it was announced that funding approval from NHSE for the construction of a new kidney dialysis unit at Nimbus Park, to be named the Luton Kidney Centre, has been obtained and there has also been notification that we will be receiving planning approval by Friday 18 December.

This is in advance of the initial programme timetable which is now being reviewed and updated, the purchase order being issued to the contractor and an accelerated start date negotiated.

This will allow contracts for the Nimbus Park to be finalised and arrangements to be made to allow the contractors to get going at the earliest opportunity. It also means that our partners at Luton and Dunstable Hospital can be informed of the good news and enable us to identify new date for us to vacate the site at the earliest opportunity.

Kevin Howell, the East and North Herts Trust’s Director of Estates and Faciliies said.

“This is testimony to the work undertaken, not only in the year that I have been here, but the many years of constant effort and persistence of numerous people and especially the good work of the Luton area kidney patients Association who have been a solid foundation for our patients views and the dedicated clinical and nursing staff who have never taken their eye off the long-term goal.”

We look forward now to reporting on progress on this important initiative and will provide regular updates on the website and in the LAKPA Newsletters.
